Boston-based, Bay Area-reared vocalist Felicia Chen presents a solo program that explores different methods of using the voice in contemporary art music. Through the performance of works by composers from the mid-20th century up to the present day, Felicia will demonstrate the breadth and fluidity of vocal production required of today's classical singers. By contrasting the use of lyricism stemming from the operatic tradition, with an emphasis on percussive noises, and examples of the voice as a solo instrument paired with vocals as part of a larger soundscape, this program celebrates the versatility and universality of humankind's first instrument.
